Our tiny ancestral forest of Rouvas is a truffle paradise. Almost every day of the year we go truffle hunting, we eat truffles and we sell truffles. Truffles and truffle hunting are an everyday part of life.
They’re all part of the same family, a family that has lived and hunted truffles for many years. We are the custodians of many truffle recipes, handed down through the family from generation to generation, and the caretakers of these truffle-rich forests and mountains for our future generations of truffle hunters.
Crete is one of the biggest truffle producing areas. Essentially they are... mushrooms, known since ancient times. Nature gives birth to colors and beauties, hides countless treasures and seduces us into other rhythms of life.
We thrive in the truffle hunting lifestyle, as we’re close to nature, we love fresh, delicious food and we’re never far from a bottle or jug of our local wine. We have many black truffles, at winter and summer, and they become famous all around the world after the past years.
You will have the chance to participate in a distinctive experience that is the one and only in our island. The clear sky and the picturesque landscape give the visitor the chance to become one with nature while walking through the forest.
The wild truffle hunting in combination with the local Cretan food, the bee products from the bees living in the woods which you will have the chance to taste wine, raki , raki with honey and of course pasta served with the fresh truffle gathered in the hunting , create the absolute experience of truffle hunting in the forest of Rouvas.
Truffle hunting in Crete can really work up an appetite. You’ll try lots of traditional recipes as well as our traditional wine and cheese like graviera.
In addition we’ll stop deep in the forest to rest for a very big but also very relaxing traditional Cretan lunch. Nikos will light a fire for cooking, where you can chat and learn some local cooking tricks. The day ends with a cup of mountain tea and hopefully some very happy smiles.
