Rouvas Forest, one of the most important and treasured forest remaining on the island of Crete, is a vital ecosystem, primarily based on an oak forest.
Covering the inland slopes of Psiloritis, it is defined by the peaks of Ambelakia and Samari to the south, Chalazokephala to the west, Skinaka and Koudouni to the north and Gyristi to the east. The forest covers more than 7400 acres.
The Wild Foods Truffle Hunting adventure is an easy, 45 minutes day trip only from Heraklion, and a great way to experience some traditional culture and cuisine from the green heart of Crete.
We can give an appointment at the village of Gergeri 40 km away from Heraklion. Then you will follow us with your own car to reach in our destination Rouvas Forest.

On the unspoiled foothills of the Psiloritis UNESCO Global Geopark, our family keeps a centuries-old tradition alive. Nikos Kapsalis, recognized by UNESCO as Crete's first truffle hunter, is the guardian of this knowledge. His deep connection to the Rouvas Forest and his love for the area's rare flora served as the inspiration for the unique “Anégnoro” honey.
